Starfleet Personnel Dossier
Personal History:
Shar'El was discovered in abandoned quarters on STARBASE 118 by a security detail responding to an unexplained energy discharge. Medical scans identified the infant as a 12 to 16 hours old female of Ullian descent. Efforts to have the child returned to its homeworld failed as the local government refused to acknowledge the medical proof provided as to the child's biological origins.
With few options available, the Commanding officer of STARBASE 118, Captain Roberta Cohen, took on the task of caring for the child along with the greater majority of the base's senior staff. The infant was given a name from ancient Ullian mythology that suited her own personal history and struggle -- Shar'El, an orphan who grew up to in the care of people from another continent, became one of the leading forces to unite the people under a single planetary government.
Although every effort to teach Shar'El about her heritage were made, the child grew up to despise her own people. When she was 18, she begged the starbase's CMO to perform cosmetic surgery on her to erased all visible traces of her Ullian ancestry.
With her family's assistance and support, Shar'El enrolled in Starfleet Academy at the age of 18. With the help of Betazoid friends and instructors, Shar'El improved her telepathic skills to be a match to those of her race, enabling her to access the memories of most humanoids known by the Federation.
Although she holds the senior staff of STARBASE 118 in the highest regards, them having been more than a family to her, Shar'El has done her best to distance herself from them so as to not have her past become a burden to any of them. Occasional letters were sent to inform the senior staff of her progress at the Academy, but nothing personal was ever discussed.
During the four years at the Academy, Shar'El grew to become more of a loner, keeping to herself and her studies, and attitude that strongly persist following her graduation.

Understanding Shar'El
From an early age, Shar'El displayed an uncanny aptitude for observation and analysis, skills that naturally drew her toward intelligence work. Her upbringing on STARBASE 118 exposed her to a myriad of cultures, conflicts, and complexities, sparking a desire to understand the deeper layers of human and alien interactions. Her belief that knowledge is power became a driving force, compelling her to seek the truth hidden in plain sight.
While at Starfleet Academy, Shar'El majored in Operations with a focus on Intelligence and minored in Science. Her instructors noted her analytical mind and her unique ability to piece together fragments of information into a coherent picture. This talent caught the attention of Admiral Koniki, head of the covert NEW ALEXANDRIA operations, who recognized her potential to excel in the shadowy world of intelligence.
Joining the NEW ALEXANDRIA Team
Admiral Koniki’s decision to recruit Shar'El into his elite team was not made lightly. Her Ullian heritage, combined with her training and dedication, made her a perfect candidate for the secretive operations run out of the asteroid-ensconced starbase. The fact that her Ullian heritage had already been hidden further convinced the Admiral of her worth as an Intel Operative.
Enhancing Her Telepathic Skills
Under Admiral Koniki’s guidance, Shar'El underwent intensive training to refine her natural abilities. She learned to delve deeper into the memories of others, extracting and analyzing key details with precision. She also trained to block or alter memories, a skill that required extraordinary focus and discipline. The ethical implications of such actions weighed heavily on her, but she understood the necessity of her role in safeguarding the Federation.
The Burden of Troubling Memories
Shar'El’s work in intelligence often brought her face-to-face with the most harrowing aspects of sentient experience. As a Ullian, she did not merely observe memories—she lived them, experiencing the emotions and trauma of others as if they were her own. Some of the most troubling memories she encountered include:
Ya'Han’s Stolen Pregnancy: One of the most challenging moments of Shar'El’s career involved Lieutenant Ya'Han, the ship’s Sec/Tac officer. During a mission involving the Boldari, Ya'Han was subjected to an unimaginable violation: her unborn child was stolen from her. Shar'El realized that Ya'Han would be unable to bear the weight of such a memory. Using her Ullian abilities, Shar'El blocked the traumatic memory, allowing Ya'Han to heal and continue on with her life. The ethical conflict of this action haunts Shar'El to this day.
Memories of War: Shar'El has encountered countless memories of violence, loss, and betrayal while working with refugees, prisoners, and defectors. Each memory left an imprint on her psyche, a grim reminder of the stakes involved in intelligence work.
The Cost of Loyalty: On one occasion, Shar'El had to erase the memory of a loyal Starfleet officer who had uncovered classified information that could jeopardize a mission. The officer’s anguish as they realized they were losing a part of themselves is a memory that Shar'El cannot forget.
A Complex Legacy
Shar'El’s journey from an abandoned Ullian infant to a Commander aboard the USS ANUBIS reflects her resilience and dedication. She carries the weight of the memories she has seen, altered, and blocked, knowing that her work in the shadows is essential to protecting the Federation. Her transformation into a black-haired vixen is both a physical and symbolic representation of her role as a hidden guardian, operating in the unseen corners of the galaxy.
Though reserved and solitary by nature, Shar'El’s loyalty to her crewmates is unwavering. She understands that the sacrifices she makes, including pieces of her own identity, are necessary to ensure the safety and stability of those she serves.
