He grew up reading literally classics of Horation Hornblower and ubrey Martin. That gave him the idea that he could be an explorer and part of the military. Then as a child he saw the aftermath of the dominon war. He wanted to see those who harmed and destroyed imprisioned and forced to rebuild. Law became something he was obsessed with. He applied for academy and when he got in he was elliated.
