"Early Morning Relaxation"
(Cont. from "Not So Easy")
~~~~~~~~~~
Setting: USS ANUBIS, Holodeck 2
Stardate: 63073.0100
Holodecks were a wonderful invention that allowed someone to wander the most exotic of scenery or visit worlds that only lived in the realm of dreams.  The level of details able to be created had been mind-boggling if you focused only on the specifics instead of enjoying the program and ambiance as a whole.  Aki had selected a much simpler program for what she had decided to do in order to relax; a nice ocean swim.
The gentle motion of the ocean seemed to almost welcome the aCSciO's strokes as the Ensign moved further into the boundless watery world. The holodeck had been asked to provide nothing more than water and a clear blue sky overhead, Aki not having required the incentive of land or of another objective to tackle this program with everything she had been ready to give.  She would swim for as long as her arms and legs would allow, and only then would the Ensign consider taking a break.
For some, resting in their quarters had been the activity of choice, but for Aki physical exercise had always proven to be far more effective at releasing stress and calming her mind.  For her the old axiom of Sir Isaac Newton that claimed 'a body at rest tends to remain at rest, a body in motion tends to remain in motion," had almost become a mantra.  Had she been the only one onboard the ANUBIS to believe in this, the aCSciO might have modified her ways, but many if not most of the senior staff seemed to think as she did.  Many worked double shifts without having been asked and took the briefest of breaks before returning to their duties and tasks.  One of the best proofs of this had been the ship's own Chief Science Officer who spent the majority of her time in the labs instead of anywhere else on the ship, including her own quarters.
"If this is your idea of relaxing, I would truly hate to see what you consider to be a grueling workout," Elliot said from a small island off to the side from the Ensign's current path.
Aki stopped and then altered her course to head for the small island barely large enough to hold the person already standing on it.  Once there she accepted the towel that the COO had offered and started with drying her hair as she playfully glared at Ensign Thomas.  "How did you get here?"
"I walked through the door," the COO joked then continued this time offering the answer that the aCSciO had likely been looking for. "Went to your quarters and when you weren't there I asked the computer.  I'm still not sure why I don't do that right from the start, you never seem to be where I am looking for you."
"I'm sorry," Aki said following a lengthy silence shared between the two officers.
"For what?" Elliot asked, the aCSciO having suddenly become far more serious than he had expected.
"For everything," the Asian Ensign replied.  "For having misunderstood what I saw, for having run off without giving you a chance to explain, for making your life more complicated that it needs to be."
"Aki," Elliot said as he gently took the woman's face into his hands. "You have nothing to be sorry about, and about making my life more complicated there are things that well worth the extra work and time required."
The two Ensigns gazed into each other's eyes for several moments before their lips began to be drawn closer, like two astral bodies responding to a gravitational force beyond their individual control.
The peaceful sapphire sky had been replaced by a dreamy twinkling starscape, and the island had been increased in size to accommodate the two bodies now laying side by side, their gaze cast upward towards the artificial night's sky.
"Now this is more my idea of relaxing," Elliot whispered as he held Aki close to him, the fears and worries of the past few days had all but vanished.
