032-USS ANUBIS: Rikar: Day 2 - 2110 ("Patience")

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Stardate: 63071.2110
Since their departure from NEW ALEXANDRIA roughly 5 hours ago, Captain Rikar had remained on the Bridge, every single second spent busy overseeing, coordinating or preparing some aspect of their new mission. Any and every effort to get a few moments of peace and quiet had been met with absolute failure… as if the Universe itself had intended the redheaded woman to pay for some unmentioned transgression.
When a break in the endless stream of questions and demands made of the CO came to pass, the Captain immediately jumped on the opportunity and made her way to the turbo lift. There had been something important that had required Rikar's attention… and the way things were going there would not be any time to take care of this later.

Stardate: 63071.2115
Captain Rikar walked down the corridor with a distinct purpose in her step… anyone who encountered her having quickly gathered that they needed to get out of the way. There had not truly been an emergency to warrant the CO's haste, but fear that something would interrupt the task that she had taken upon herself to complete had insured that the redhead would not allow anything to stop her.
The ANUBIS' Commanding Officer stopped just short of triggering the doors to Sickbay… her thoughts having drifted onto another time, another place. Many years ago the CO had been where Lieutenant Junior Grade Summers had been and Sabrina recalled that time with fondness and trepidation, easily imagining how nervous Lea would be given their current situation.

Stardate: 63071.2120
The CO walked in to find the CMO leaning back against a biobed while having a discussion with one of the aCMO currently assigned to the department.
"We haven't even taken into account injuries that we may suffer once we arrive. If we do get there in time, the welcome mat may be pulled right from under us," the CMO stated unaware that the CO had stepped into her domain.
"I had not realized that you had such a low opinion of this ship and her crew," Sabrina quickly countered with as she walked deeper into Sickbay.
"I don't Captain," the CMO swiftly added, the expression on her features reflected sorrow and uneasiness. "I have the greatest possible respect for every member of this crew. I also know that this ship is capable of going up against things that no one else would ever dream of. It's just that," Lea continued at a speed that would have made Maya proud.
"Relax Doctor," the Captain interrupted, a friendly smile having come to grace her pink lips. "I understand where you are coming from. We have no idea what we will encounter, but I can assure you that we will take every necessary precautions. Whoever or whatever is out there will not be given any free shots at us."
Having once been a CMO herself, Sabrina could easily understand the anxiety experienced by Doctor Summers, and the redhead woman's experience as a CNS had made it easy for her to see that Lea had immediately felt better after their little exchange.
"I have to get back to the Bridge before Ensign Thomas sends security after me," the Captain offered with a grin before she tossed a small blue velvet box in the direction of the CMO. "I am truly sorry that we do not have the time to properly celebrate this, but I had hoped to make this official once our training exercise was completed. Hopefully, once this mission is over, we can do this properly."
Doctor Summers watched with utter puzzlement as the Captain exited Sickbay and left the CMO to wonder what her words had meant and what had been inside the small blue box. A blinding smile flashed over Lea's lips as she opened the box to see a solid gold coloured pip looking back at her… a pip she quickly understood had been meant to replace the black centered one currently affixed on her collar.
[[*Lieutenant* Lea Summers,]] she grinned to herself… it did have a nice ring to it.
