"Getting Ready"
[Previous post - "Personal Nemesis"]

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Stardate: 30145.1040

Upon leaving the meeting Sonja headed with purpose towards her new home in engineering.  Making mental notes of the things that she needed done within the hour to be ready for departure. Thought she knew she had more than an hour she liked to give herself a shorter time frame to give herself some wiggle room if needed.

Once in main engineering the redhead gathered her minions and gave out the details as she knew them about the mission.   After having confirmed that everyone had been present around the central island, the CEO began with her instructions.  “Alright we have one hours to get everything ready for our departure for PI ALPHA III.  I need the warp field generators checked and doubled checked.  We also need to give the warp coils a once over to make sure nothing breaks when the Captain pushes the engines.  We do not want any unpleasant surprises.  I need Gamma shift to check the matter/antimatter injectors as well as the entire armature of the MARA chamber.  Beta shift, you guys are in charge of the secondary power conduits.  I suspect that we will be asked to test the auxiliary systems to well beyond the design specifications.  Alpha shift will be responsible for the power distribution grid, main deflector array as well as shield generators.  We can all have a look at the ablative cloak’s response time after we actually get under way.  I’ll take care of completing the computer’s maintenance and sub-processor’s data purge in the meantime, which was what I was doing prior to the briefing.”

Sonja gave a quick look around at her teams and froze for a split second before placing her hands on her hips.

“Well, what are you guys waiting for? An engraved invitation? Get going… sheesh!” she added in a tone that was all business, yet still managing to crack a smile as she did so.

The redhead turned back to the work station and noted ANI standing on the other side of the island. “Do you require anything from me?”

“ANI,” the CEO began. “Can you remotely access the VIPER and their on board systems?”

“Due to security protocols,” the ANUBIS’ Avatar replied in a matter-of-fact tone. “The VIPERS are on a stand-alone system to avoid them being compromised should the main computer somehow fall under undesired influence.  The last maintenance update on the VIPERS was performed on stardate 29227.1600.”

“ANI, can you do a preliminary check of the VIPERS flight and operational systems?  As soon as I am done here I will join you to insure that the mechanical components are as they should be for their flight tests.”  Sonja offered before adding one last thing. “Can you go to the upper level and bring one of the spare bio-regenerative hull plating to the VIPER launch bay as well, just in case we need it?”

As the Avatar left having nodded her compliance, Sonja turned back to her work and saw the case she received from her grandfather many years ago. Upon seeing the aged, tattered metal box the redhead began to remember all of the times they had sat together tinkering with odd bits and pieces when she was a child.  Unknowingly, Sonja was learning the basics of engineering that she came to love so very much.  Lost in her memories for a few seconds, the CEO’s attention was recalled to reality by something or someone on the upper deck.  A feeling of having been observed swept through the Engineer causing her to quickly look up, but when she did Sonja saw nothing more than a few shifting shadows.

Shar’El silently sighed at the close call that she had just experienced.  The memory that she had touched and seen had been very personal which had likely been the reason why the ship’s CEO had actually become, even in the slightest of ways, aware of the ILO’s presence.
