[previous "Routine Inspection"]

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Stardate: 30145.09:30

So far he had met the Captain and the Chief Science Officer of the ANUBIS. Captain Morningstar was a friendly chap, a man that he could see himself working under without any difficulties. The lead scientist though would be a little more challenging based on their first meeting.  She seemed nice enough but getting to talk to the woman might proved to be a full time job.  Still everything so far pointed to this being the right ship for him.

Following the call from Sickbay, Jayson thought it best if he bit the bullet first. The Captain had not seemed too keen on going for his check-up and truth be known the Ensign had been overdue for one.  Excuses were easy to come by at the Academy, but here things were different. He needed to be the best he could be, and this included being in top physical form.

"With you permission Sir, I will head down to sickbay. Maybe us Ensigns can chat a little and make things easier on you."

The Captain smiled before releasing the Operations officer from his station.

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
Stardate: 30145.09:40

Jayson felt a little uncomfortable when he walked in. Hospitals and other medical facilities had a bad habit of reminding him of Leena's death. That had happened in another time, another life and he needed to deal with this. The ANUBIS would challenge him in this new life, so facing one of his greatest fears had been necessary.

"Hello? Doctor?"

The woman came out of her office. Her smile was warm and inviting but he could not help but take a step back.

"Are you here for your check-up?"

Instead of hearing the woman's voice he heard a single loud explosion. He froze, stuck between two lives and uncertain as to stay or run.

"Are you alright Ensign?"

He closed his eyes and drew a long deep breath. What mattered was the present and his being here.

"Sorry Doctor, my thoughts were somewhere else.  Yes, I am here for my check-up if you have the time."

She smiled again and invited him to take a seat on the main bed. He complied while pushing the thoughts and fears as far away as he could.  Maybe after Sickbay he would need to make an appointment with the ship's Counsellor.
