[previous "Second Chances"]

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Some Corridor
Stardate: 30145.0900

The four years spent at the academy were nothing more than a distant memory now. His parents had guided him to Starfleet with the hopes that he would be able to start a new life. The search for this new life brought him here, to this place and this ship.

Jayson thought that the name of the ship was ironic. Anubis was the Egyptian god of tombs and ruler of the underworld. A jackal-headed beast who lead the dead to judgment to see if they were worthy of an afterlife.

He pretty much considered himself to be dead after the death of his wife and unborn child. That's how he felt having lost all will and reason to live. Starfleet had been the only hope for a new life, an afterlife of sorts. Maybe that was why he was here. To be judged as to his worthiness to this new life.

His footsteps echoed in the empty corridor. The sound drew him deeper into the ship, summoning him to an unknown future. There was something mysterious about this ship, something that made him continue forward.

On the way here Jayson believed that it would take some time before he would feel at home here. The moment he stepped on the ship though that changed. Everything about this ship beckoned him.

When assigned to a new ship people normally go to their quarters when arriving. It is a natural way to become more comfortable, to get to know the layout of their new ship. During his stay at the Academy though Jayson had focused on nothing other than his work and duties. Because of that he decided to head to where he would be most useful, where he would feel most at ease.

Jayson went to the nearest turbolift and immediately stepped in. No hesitation, no fear, only purpose and the desire to embrace this new life.

The doors closed and the pod began moving.  This was his new home, his new life.

That is what Leena would have wanted.
